ELEMENTS OF SPAIN
A wine and supper evening
We are really excited to be co-hosting a wine and supper evening with Plymouth based wine writer and educator, Stephen Barrett in partnership with Cornish Partnerships. We hope that this will become a quarterly event, perhaps even monthly, as we eat and drink our way around the globe, making new friends along the way.
The evening will kick off at 7.00 pm with a glass of Cava whilst we welcome everyone and Stephen introduces himself and the evening. Ben’s innovative cooking is just as apparent in this Iberian feast as on all other occasions whilst sticking with the true taste of Spain using the finest Cornish ingredients. Using firm favourites such as Duchy Charcuterie for the starter course of cured meats which he will be serving with his own made bread baked to a traditional Spanish recipe. Marc at Duchy Charcuterie has worked with us before on a previous collaboration when we co-hosted a Game Evening so we’re delighted to be using his beautiful cured products for this special evening. The main course will be showcasing not 1 but 2 prominent suppliers in Cornwall. Octopus from Wing of St Mawes and pork belly from the award winning Primrose Herd are both slow braised with golden Spanish saffron, garlic, west country butter, Heritage tomatoes, chicken stock (homemade of course) and Borra rice. To follow we will be serving something very similar to a dish from the Valentine’s menu – Manchego, dehydrated white chocolate mousse and pickled celery. This was previously done with Cornish Gouda instead of Manchego and proved to be the star of the show for many. For dessert a Tarta de Santiago an almond cake or pie from Galicia with origin in the Middle Ages. This will be served with Rodda’s clotted cream and toasted almonds. Our wines for the evening will all be supplied from Wine in Cornwall Ltd, Redruth and not a Rioja in sight! But to find out more you’ll have to book and explore Spain with us.
